Our Story
It started with a cat named Gizmo.
Gizmo was part of our family for 18 years. When the time came to say goodbye, we had someone come to our home so he could go peacefully, surrounded by everyone who loved him. I held him at the end.
I am tearing up just writing that.
After 18 years, you don’t just lose a pet. You lose a member of your family. And that experience changed how I think about every animal in my life. These creatures trust us completely. They can’t protect themselves. That’s on us.
SmartFurHub was born from that feeling — the deep need to do right by the animals who love us unconditionally.
A Little More of Our Story
A few years later, my son and his family stayed with us for a few months. They brought their little Chiweenie, Dexter, with them.
I already knew Dexter, but this time was different. Having him around every day, I got to spend real quality time with him — and that little dog worked
his way deeper into my heart than I expected.
But animals have a way of finding you when you need them. Dexter reminded me what it feels like to have a pet just happy to be near you. Simple as that.
When they moved out I realized how much those small moments had meant to me. Now when I visit, that little dog still lights up and it never gets old.
Pets do that. They fill spaces in your life you didn’t even know were empty. They don’t ask for much and they give everything they have.
That’s worth protecting.
